Moore Reunion Minutes

June 23, 2007

The Annual Moore Reunion was held at Cedar Grove Church on Saturday, June 23, 2007, with Alvin's family in charge.  There were 75 in attendance made up from the following:  3 from Frank's family, 5 from Harry's family, 26 from Alvin's family, 3 from Roger's family, 1 from Helen's family, 13 from Bill's family, 10 from Clyde's family, 6 from Mary Ellen's family, 6 from Don's family, and 2 guests.

Bryan gave information on his trip to Scotland and the Isles of Lewis where he learned about the Clan Morrison's.  There will be a world reunion held there in 2009.  Anyone wanting to go can contact Bryan for information.

Bob Warren discussed his committee's report on providing a memorial for deceased family, Uncles Leslie and Lloyd, who died very young, and are buried in Warren, Indiana, and Aunt Edith, who is buried in Tiffin, Ohio.  This memorial would be placed in Cedar Grove Cemetery near where other family members are buried.  The cost for the monument, tax, and a donation to the upkeep of the cemetery would be $1,607.  A motion by Bryan Moore and seconded by Steve Moore to have the committee to proceed with the plans.  Motion was approved.  A donation was taken up to start the funding and $350 was collected.  Anyone wanting to make a donation should send a check to:

Joyce Pipenger

New Paris, Ohio 45347  ....... with a memo for the "Moore Monument Fund".

It was reported that there had been a number of weddings, births, graduations, and other important happenings during the past year.  Jerry's son Jack was inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame.  Dave and his wife have 5 grandchildren with four more on the way.

The treasurer's report was given showing a beginning balance of $1,578.17 and expenses of $432.22, leaving an ending balance of $1,145.95.  A basket was passed and another $240 was collected.

A corresponding date for next year's reunion would be June 21, 2008, with the Bob Moore family in charge.

Subject: Cedar Grove Cemetery Memorial Headstone

From: Bob Warren
Following is a summary of our visit to Cedar Grove Cemetery and Abbottsville Monuments on Tuesday, May 8, 2007.
Uncle Don, Max Moore, John Tomb and I met with the three Harrison Township Trustees relative to a location and specifications for a memorial headstone at Cedar Grove Cemetery. We selected a location that is almost directly across from Grandma and Grandpa Moore, but two rows away. It is a good site and will be in the same row with other Moore relatives. It is two rows closer to the road than Grandma and Grandpa.
The headstone footer is poured by the township and will be 26” deep, 48” long, and 12” wide. They will be pouring footers on September 15, 2007. The cost of the footer is $300.00.
Our recommendation is that in addition to the footer, we make a contribution to Harrison Township for their ongoing care of Cedar Grove Cemetery. We can put this to a vote, or at least a discussion, at the reunion in June.
John and I met with John Brown at Abbottsville Monument Company and looked at headstones suitable for the footer size and message we wanted to use. We selected a one piece monument made of Barre Grey granite…the very best granite that comes from Barre, VT. The headstone has a tapered front. It is referred to as an “All Steeled” front. The dimensions are: 42” long, 16” high, and 10” deep.
The price of the headstone, including engraving is $1040.00 plus tax.
The estimated cost for the entire project is:
Monument $1,040.00
Tax @ 6.5% 67.60
Footer 300.00
Donation (optional) 200.00
Total $1,607.60
There isn’t a rush; however, we should attempt to finalize the wording to be used on the monument as soon as we can. Following is a suggestion. Perhaps there will be other suggestions forthcoming.
