The Moores met for the summer reunion at Cedar Grove Church of the Brethren Family Life Center on June 26, 2004.  It was a pretty summer day.  The gathering was hosted Bob Williams and his family.  As always the yummy food was plentiful as were the stories, jokes and fellowship.  David Williams conducted the business meeting.

We had a moment of silence to remember Marcille, Eleanor and Uncle Sam.

Max told us how much he and Joyce enjoyed having Doug Moore stay with them while he worked in the Columbus, Indiana area.    Doug was hoping to attend the reunion but had to work.

Chuck shared about the passing of Doris McDaniel, Kay Moore’s mother on Thursday, June 24, 2004.  Mrs. Mac was 103 when she died.  She remained her own woman with lots of spunk to the very end.

Chuck was eager to share the fact that he and Carol are FINALLY about to become grandparents!!!   Lee and Hilary are expecting “Little Bit” to arrive the first week of September.  Chuck seems to be giving very serious consideration to retirement now that he will be assuming the huge responsibility of becoming a Grandpa!

Chuck also shared that Dan & Kay have a new granddaughter named Zenobia Rose.  Todd & Yvette and their three children live in Western Australia.

Bob Warren told us that Neil and Sam were not able to attend the reunion because they were both working.  Neil’s son Matthew has been home from Iraq for 8 months and is currently serving in Texas.  Sam & Sue’s daughter Erin had twins February 3.  Their names are Samantha and Elizabeth.

Bob & Joyce’s little granddaughter Mia is tolerating her therapy for leukemia very well.  Provided everything continues to go so well,  Mia has another 16 months yet to go.  Mia’s baby sister Audrey has been a trooper and a great encourager for the entire family throughout this ordeal.  Apparently Mia was asked to be the poster child for the cancer walk in the Springfield area.  When it was time to begin, she called into the microphone, “OK!  Let’s Walk!!”

Gina had duplicates of pictures from the 2000 reunion and invited anyone who wanted them to help themselves.

Tom announced that the annual golf outing would be on September 11 in Winchester, IN.

A 4-main scramble is planned.

Ben Tomb announced the arrival of twin grandsons.  Andrea and Brian and big sister Bernadette welcomed Matthew Duncan and Benjamin James on July 22, 2003.

John Tomb told about a tape or tapes the Bruce McWhorter has.   Apparently Bruce and Uncle Ken had interviewed Grandpa Moore at one point.  The tapes are being stored in Bruce’s garage.  John has offered to help Bruce sort through things to find the tapes, has offered to buy them, all to no avail.   John asked us to please remind Bruce of our interest in the tapes if we should see him.

Cousin Don Moore is stationed in Balad, Iraq.  He is in a rather remote area.  Hopefully that will aid in his safekeeping.  We will continue to pray for his safety and the safety of all of our soldiers.

Nelson sent greetings to all and said that he was very sorry they would not be able to attend the reunion.  His update for the Harry Moore family was that Archie Beckner’s mother passed away about a week prior to the reunion.  Regan’s daughter, Darby, had a baby boy about 2 months ago.  They live in Phoenix.

Uncle Don announced that they are expecting two more great-grandchildren.  Andy & Sherry are expecting their second baby in July.  Jared & Danielle are expecting their first in December.   Susan plans to have surgery to reverse her colostomy in July.  She is doing well.

Leslie and Marcia sent a note (6-23-04) to Judy from the REAL “sunshine state”!  “We appreciate your efforts as we receive ‘family updates’.  Daily prayers go up for Don and Dustin and all family members and all armed services men and women in Iraq and around the world for protection, strength, health and comfort.  Les will return from Detroit, MI tomorrow where a machine is being checked for its ability to make a new product.  This past week both of our daughters visited us.  Hope was here from Appleton, WI and Holly was here from Riverdale, NY.  We hung around here instead of our usual road trip north or south to mountains…not to say we didn’t do any hiking; just that we did it closer to home.  Other activities included golf, target shooting (out in the desert), and cooling off in the pool.  It was good to be on a flexible schedule.  Take care…Enjoy the reunion time….Marcia & Les

Judy and Dan attended the dedication of the WWII Memorial in Washington, D.C. in May and brought pictures and mementos to share.

Tom invited all of us to come over to Grandpa’s house after the reunion.  He and Vicki have been working on the house, have made significant progress and have found some treasures they would like to share.

Joe told about searching out the graves of Uncles Leslie and Lloyd when they were in Warren, IN for Great Uncle Sam’s funeral.  Apparently the graves are in poor condition and the stones are severely damaged.  Max then suggested that more investigation be done in August as the Morrison Reunion is scheduled for August 8.  He agreed to investigate and work with Uncle Don, Daddy (Roger), Joe and John Tomb to complete the repair.  The family voted to fund the project and entrust it to the engineers listed above.

Uncle Don announced that his family would host the 2005 Reunion at Cedar Grove Family Life Center on Saturday, June 25, 2005.

Many of us left the reunion and spent a LONG time at Grandpa’s house….talking about who slept where, where Grandpa’s chair was; Prince Albert in a can; blowing out the match for Grandpa; the cold coffee, sauerkraut, bologna, Colby cheese and sandwich cookies, huddling around the stove in the living room; the snowy, black & white TV with tiny, almost oval screen; the bumble bees that swarmed around the back door and other topics that just brought back more Moore memories…Aunt Rach finding Grandpa’s stash of candy bars in the back porch….she ate the candy but left the wrappers in the box as if they had been untouched.  Memories of making ice cream, the tractor tire sand boxes, the swings, the first encounter with the electric fence, playing chess with Grandpa.  And most everyone made a trip to the barn.  Almost everyone took that walk alone.  Could almost see time melt away as one headed to the barn to help milk, while another went to bring fresh milk up in the brown pitcher, another was going to feed or to climb on the tractor and go to the field.  It was an absolutely beautiful ending to a great reunion!    Thank you Tom & Vicki for your hospitality!!
