As usual,
Pauline Martin Arnett stopped by to visit. She was sorry to miss Aunt
Helen. She graduated from high
school with Roger. She said, “He sat behind me and gave me plenty of
trouble!”
For
several minutes at the beginning of the business meeting we had difficulty with
the sound system. At one point,
Mark blurted out a comment that pretty much brought the house down. No one was certain if he was referring
to a personal problem or the microphone.
Judy read
the minutes from the last reunion.
Joyce gave the treasurer’s report.
We have a balance of $422 today.
$58 came in from the Christmas dinner. $50 came from Uncle Ken’s sister, Elizabeth. We sent flowers to Mary Lou while she
was in the hospital last summer.
Flowers were purchased for Uncle Ken’s service. We bought flowers for the graves of
Grandpa & Grandma Moore and Uncle Ross at Memorial Day. $50 was given to Cedar Grove for use of
the Family Life Center. $206 was
added to the fund at this reunion.
Joyce
asked for feedback about purchasing memorial flowers for Grandpa & Grandma
Moore’s and Ross’ graves. Dan
suggested that we continue to do that.
Mark said that he could tell from the heads nodding that the majority of
folks agreed with that plan.
Aunt Alice
read a note from Uncle Ken’s sister, Elizabeth. She thanked Aunt Alice for inviting her and her family to
join us for the reunion. Elizabeth
also sent a donation to the family fund.
Max asked
Uncle Bill if there was additional work to be done on the Morrison graves in
New Paris. Uncle Bill said that
had been completed.
Larry
announced that their son, Tyler, graduated from Manchester College this spring.
Mark &
Gina’s son, Drew, graduated from Tri-Village High School.
Chuck
announced that Andy Paul graduated from NCSU this spring and will be working
for Milliken Corp. as a Process Improvement Manager. Andy Paul also recently became engaged. The wedding will be on September 7 of
this year.
Chuck also
announced that Jessica has purchased a condo near Chapel Hill, NC and is
teaching French in a local middle school.
She loves it!
Chuck also
announced that Carol’s son Drew was recently married in an outdoor wedding in
the mountains of NC. Chuck
recalled the poem called “The Rose” that Jinny loved to hear Daddy (Roger)
recite. Chuck thought that would
be an appropriate addition to the wedding so he memorized the poem, cut the
prettiest roses from his rose bushes, presented the roses to the couple and
recited the poem during the wedding.
Chuck was proud to carry on the tradition.
Vicki
announced that Daniel’s new bride, Sarah, graduated from IUEast this spring and
will be teaching 6th grade at North Eastern this fall.
Max told
us that Pam’s youngest daughter, Chrissy, worked her way through college and
was married just 2 weeks ago.
He also told us that Pam’s daughter Stacy had a baby girl, Madelyn Rose,
on January 10, 2003.
Judy read
notes from some of the cousins who could not attend. Tom Bates, Max’s # 2 son-in-law, wrote that this is a very
busy summer for their family. He
couldn’t attend and the schedules for the rest of the family looked “iffy”
also. I guess the most important
comment from Tom was that he did not have any additional complaints against his
father-in-law!
Ben Tomb
had written that he and Jeanne would not be attending. Ben has accepted a new position in
Atlanta and is commuting.
Additionally, Mr. Bachman died in early June, funeral June 6. He had been fighting multiple illnesses
and then acquired hospital induced incurable staph infection. Additionally, one of their very closest
friends had just lost a 7-year battle against cancer. On the lighter side, Ben sent a picture of his beautiful
10-month-old granddaughter, Anne Bernadette. He had just seen his triplet, 3-year old
grandsons. “They are terrific,
energetic curious, bubbly…..their parents are exhausted. Greg is doing well. Love and greetings to all…..most
importantly to Aunts and Uncles.
Sharon
Cobb had written to send love and greetings. She and Mike had tickets to the
Phantom of the Opera. She said “it
is great to be a Moore but the Phantom waits!”
Suzanne
sent love & greetings from Washington state. She also mentioned Mr. Bachman’s death. Their son-in-law graduated with a
software engineering degree this spring.
They are all well.
Bob Warren
had called to say that Aunt Helen had been diagnosed with diabetes. She was too weak to come to the
reunion. They have started her on
insulin and hope that her strength and energy will rebound after a bit of
time. Uncle Fos is doing
well. Matthew, Neil’s son, is back
from Iraq and glad to be in the US again.
Jerry’s
granddaughter, Megan, graduated from high school this year and will attend
DeVry in Columbus, Ohio.
Bryan and
Joyce have a new grandson.
Alexander Joshua was born to Jason and his wife on September 19, 2002.
Bryan and
Joyce’s son, Justin, recently graduated from chiropractic school and will be
practicing in northern Kentucky.
Nelson and
Jan have a new grandson, Bryce Alexander.
He was born on April 20, 2003 – Easter Sunday.
Archie
Beckner had been suffering from a pretty severe heart condition late in 2002
and into this year. Nelson was
happy to announce that Archie is back to work on a part time basis and doing
well. Archie appreciated the
prayers and support from the Moore family.
Nelson
then shared that he had been sitting at the table with Roger & Bill &
Bob Williams and they were all attempting to define the word wisdom. Roger said he told Nelson there were
two definitions: 1) Fearing the
Lord. 2) Knowing when to shut
up. At that point, Nelson sat down
and shut up. J
Dalton
Christopher Swank is the latest arrival in the Steve Moore family. He was born to Shannon & Chris on
April 18, 2003. Dalton seemed very
content being held and loved on by lots of different people.
Dave and
Holly Moore’s granddaughter, Anna Grace, will celebrate her first birthday on
July 2, 2003.
There was
discussion about taking up a collection to help Dan & Kay financially. It seems they have only one outfit of
clothing to their name. That must
be the reason they wear the same outfit to every reunion year in and year
out. No action was taken on this
but be prepared to vote on it next year!
J
Chuck,
Carol, Dan and Judy went to see Aunt Helen and Uncle Fos on Friday before the
reunion. Aunt Helen wanted
everyone to know that she loves them.
And, she talked a lot about the pride that she and Uncle Fos have in
their heritage and the quality of individuals chosen to join our family. She said that they spend a fair amount
of time talking about their heritage.
Jim
announced that we have a new website.
www.moorereunion.us . The minutes and pictures from previous reunions are
available on this site. Also, if
your family has a website, you can link that to the Moore Reunion site so that
you can share more pictures, etc.
(For technical answers, please contact Jim.) Jim also told us that the virtualmooreville site at myfamily.com is under utilized so if
you have pictures of your family that you would like to share, please feel free
to scan them in.
Uncle Don
gave Dave Moore an old photo album.
Dave has scanned the pictures into his computer. Many of the people he could not
recognize. Several were identified
at the reunion. If you are
interested in a cd or copy of these pictures, please let Dave know.
Tom
announced that the Moores will have the annual golf tournament on September 6
at the golf course in Winchester, Indiana. He needs to know a week ahead if you plan to
participate.
We had a
moment of silence in honor of Mary Lou Moore (9-8-02), Ken McWhorter (1-24-03)
and Mr. Bachman (June 2003).
Uncle Bob
Williams announced that the next reunion will be held on Saturday, June 26,
2004 at Cedar Grove. Mark your
calendars and plan to be there!
